Printed on each case is a number which indicates the manufacture date of the MRE Case, for example "1136". The first digit, in this case "1" is the year of manufacture and would indicate the year 2011. If the first digit was "0" then that would indicate 2010 and "9" would indicate 2009.
The next three numbers indicate which day, of the 365 days in the year, the case was manufactured. In this case "136" would be day 136 of the year 2011, so May 16th, 2011.
If May16th, 2011 is the date of manufacture then the expiry date, assuming the case was stored at room temperature, would be 5 years from then, so May 16th, 2016.
